spreading some more love

a few weeks ago, holly posted a give-away on her blog, and i jumped at the chance hoping to get an adorable little skirt from her (which i did, and it's better than adorable). so know it's my turn to spread the love.

Here's the deal:
1. The winners will be the first three people to comment on this post.
2. You will win something made by me. Something good.
3. Now it's your turn to serve someone else. You are supposed to do the same giveaway on your blog.

It's not very hard, so let's spread a little love!

and as soon as i'm home on my computer, i'll post pictures of savy sporting her new skirt.

"and you'd think I'd understand that a rock'n'roll band doesn't mean a blessed thing"

I believe in exposing my children to quality experiences when they're young. And what better time to start then when they're in the womb? We exposed Savana to the awesome experience of rocking out to one of the best bands on this planet (The Shins) when she was but a wee one of six months young in the womb. And to make sure Nuckolls Junior doesn't miss out on a wonderful opportunity such as that, we took him last night, at five months young in the womb, to witness an even better experience of rocking out...Bishop Allen came to town...and rock out they did.

The saying "it takes a village to raise a person" couldn't be more true about my child. Savana has spent more of her waking hours this last week with someone other than mom. And I am so lucky to have such wonderful people around to care for my little girl. She's visited someone new almost every day this week! You know who you are, those wonderful people who I've trusted my Savy's care with over the last few days. Thank you, thank you, thank you for loving my daughter like your own!!

It's a beautiful day for a wedding...

Today is the day my little sister gets married. I'm so excited for her! Marriage is quite the journey. You learn so much about yourself over the years. I don't think anything has changed me quite as much as being a wife and being a mother. I've had to learn to be a lot less selfish, a lot more patient, and be a much better communicator. (Thanks, Sammy, for teaching me so much in our many years together!) Brynn and her soon-to-be-hubby make a stunning couple. I can't wait to see the look of pure joy on their faces today!!

All Girl

Savy surprised me today at how much a girl she really is. She's obsessed with shoes, and loves fingernail polish. Her nails have been done twice in the last week, once even by her bompa!! (I don't recall my dad ever painting any of us six girls' nails when we were growing up, but he supposedly painted Savy's nails three times until he was satisfied with the color!!! Isn't he great!!) And today she pulled out my nail polish and picked out pink for my toes and purple for hers. Girls. Always in need of a fresh paint of polish.

And to top it all off, some beautiful "princess" shoes were delivered to our house for Brynn's wedding on Saturday. She wanted to put them on immediately, told me they were "pretty," and then spent the later half of the afternoon sporting her new sparkly shoes and her pink tutu.

It makes me secretly giddy to see how much of a girl she can be. (except for when it comes to her girly moods!!)

Baby's in bed, hubbies off to work, chores are done, school work finished...it's time to draw a hot bath and relax with my incredilby addicting book!!

It's a ......

We took a visit to the doctor's office and convinced them that we desperately needed to find out the gender of our baby. So our doctor, who had been running around like crazy all afternoon going back and forth between his office and the hospital, graciously whisked us into the ultrasound room, squirted warm squishy gel onto my body, and quickly located our baby on the ultrasound. We saw the baby's head, arms, legs, butt, and right in between the bootay was a "something suspicious." I asked if it was suspicious enough to be considered a boy, and he said, "yep, definitely." So Sammy, Savy, and I will be welcoming a little boy into our home next summer. Hooray!!!! We are stoked!!

i love the independency of a 20-month old. she can't quite do anything by herself, but she sure as heck is going to try. everything is "self" or "no, mommy" or "no, help," all while pushing my hand out of the way. it takes her five minutes to do what it would have taken me one minute to do. walking up our three flights of stairs is agonizingly slow as she stops and looks at every rock, wrapper, and crack. (meanwhile, my shoulder feels as though it's going to break off from the fifty-pounds of bags i've got slung over my it and my bladder's going to burst) but she must have her independence. she insists on it. outwardly i groan, while inwardly i shout for joy or hold back tears because she's getting so big, but growing up way too fast. and nobody ever told me how moody an almost two-year old girl can be.
